Halo Reach work

Col. Holland...You can see the illustration on the left during the intelligence briefing in the UNSC temporary logistics trailer at the beginning of Reach

Sara...before she got turned into a barely there sketch of a character in Reach.

  1. Been hanging out for some more Reach stuff - really admire the art for the game. Isaac - I don't suppose you could share any other work you have of Rosenda 344?

A bigger one of her from this tease would also be wonderful!

  2. Just out of curiosity, what was the initial vision for Sara as more than a "barely there sketch of a character"? I've been wondering ever since I first played through the game what her original purpose was, as she seemed sort of important but was never shown again after Winter Contingency. That lovely concept piece for her has rekindled my curiosity!

  3. It's been a while...but I believe she was intended to accompany Noble team and serve as the science advisor...sort of a cortana...she was supposed to be tough as nails and have a slightly antagonistic relationship with Halsey who she didn't trust...and there was more to the relationship with Jorge. Like she was a foil to bring out the humanity of the Spartans since they're supposed to be so cool and stoic...almost naive or absent of emotion. Instead we imbued Jorge and Emile with more emotional depth...which to me always felt cheap. The Spartans shouldn't show their emotion in their speech or body language but in the choices and actions they take.

that's kind of a mix of what she started out as and my own opinion about how it should have gone down...had we the time... :(

  4. I would have definitely loved to have seen that version. Having a "foil" around would have certainly made Noble Team more interesting, not to mention flesh out the story a bit more. In "The Fall of Reach," when Halsey is briefing the Spartans on Red Flag, John regards the prospect of "baby-sitting" a "liability" to be negative, before he knows Cortana is actually an AI. Seeing Noble react to having a science-advisor type companion around would have been great. Halo: Reach was epic, and I adored it, but now these tidbits have me thinking about "the game that should have been"!

  5. It is awesome to hear that from a dev, I kind of thought the lack of flushing out the characters took away from one of Reach's key strengths. I would love to go back and explore reach again, maybe as a odst, to get a deeper emotional sense from that conflict.
